I woke up this morning in Tokyo to 2 casts from @dwr.eth regarding future of Farcaster As a developer building on Farcaster, I found them to be a bit contradictory, unsettling, & overly defeatist. Farcaster has been building a solid foundation for a strong future. That future is dependent on app... longcast.jam.so/jjcJMh

2/2 - FC team support ETH Global hackathons coming up in Lisbon (May), Waterloo (June), Paris (July), NYC (September). Provide rewards for developers building Farcaster powered apps. This is the FC core community! We should embrace it and build out from it. We had 30 teams build on Airstack... longcast.jam.so/jj92Z4

There needs to be a testnet for Farcaster, like Kusama for Polkadot, where the protocol is not invite-only and developers can experiment with protocol features like follow graphs, fname pricing, and more. The guard rails are let loose and good ideas are merged into FC. Fun fact, the Kusama "testnet" is worth $300M.

fwiw I think some of this is asking too much of the Merkle team, specifically “Dan, Varun and team should post regularly from Jam and Discove and other FC apps, actively promote them” “WC team pledge not to introduce any new features that are not available in the protocol”

Lots of good feedback here, but one thing that I see differently: I see multiple *direct competitors* to Warpcast, and I fail to see the value. I don't think the "twitter clone" needs competition (right now, maybe later). I think we need more innovative clients to be built. 1/2

fwiw we're steadily integrating pieces of the protocol into gallery and i want to call out that the FC team has been quite supportive in providing resources thus far seems like the main question is around the purpose of WC: simple demo / GTM for the protocol, or best-in-class dapp with novel features that drive DAU?

Two cents of a client-builder (Phrasetown): barebones client aren't differentiated enough to win. A future I can see happening: "Twitter clones" are as undifferentiated as podcasting clients, because they all consume the same data. Warpcast is positioned to win the Twitter-clone category because "official client."

Agree, success of Ethereum is direct consequence of core devs deciding to focus on protocol eng and supporting 3p devs building apps on the platform (never competing). Resulting in the most vibrant community in crypto by far, supported by ecosystem of independent enterprises invested in its success (cf other L1s) @dwr.eth

With all due respect, the future of FC depends on a whole lot more than developers building apps. Users want an excellent experience, which includes UX, UI, engagement, discovery, and yes, functionality. The current experience is quite fractured. Making the ecosystem more seamless > adding more stuff

Like many others, I’m roughly 80% in agreement here. Only counter is an early hamstring on Warpcast feels wrong. Resources for ecosystem dev should be upped though. If I were the FC team, I would be doing a lot to support @pixelpool , @unlonely and anyone building a Twitter spaces-style feature.

I think this is a great cast overall I'm in agreement with most of the points. Also, I installed jam app in an emulator to test it, and I'll send this cast from jam. Yesterday I tested connecting and adding a delegated signer with any arbitrary wallet based on the EIP712 signature which is... longcast.jam.so/jjJkaG

Externally, IMO one core issue here may be that @betashop.eth feels held back by certain technical decisions. E.g. if Merkle controls the FID contracts, then that‘s hard to disrupt by a growth-maxi team like Jam. Are the FID contracts only governed by Merkle?

I agree w most of this. the challenge is FC protocol is only as valuable as the most used client built on top of it. so while multiple clients is good in theory, it actually siphons value/money away from FC b/c they don’t make money off usage of the protocol(unlike ETH), they make money from showing ownership of data
