Would you prefer to explicitly follow people on Farcaster or have the machine serve you up relevant content based on what you like? (keep in mind that following/followers is not in the protocol, so Farcaster apps can't just sync your follows across apps)

Do you plan to make the chain algorithm transparent in some way so that I will understand how it chooses things and how I can tweak it? That’d be very web3.

I thought being able to sync your following across apps was the whole point of FC? 🧐

I prefer it being content forward for the serendipity of discovery (vs seeing the same ppl in new places)

OK, I see I made an over confident incorrect statement elsewhere. Anyways, yeah I appreciate machine suggestions, but having the ability to explicitly by decide who I follow is a matter of self determination I’m not keen to give up.

Both. The discovery process isn't 100% organic IMHO.

A social graph is great but only an algorithmic interest graph can truly scale. A decision about user experience. I’d prefer different UIs for each.

You might want the machine to personalise both actually. Even for follow, which one you show first based on what’s latest/hot/interest etc - session time might be smaller that total follow read time.

That’s a tough one. I’m so intentional about who I follow. But I’d the machine learn my preferences the way tiktok does (or Artifact has after a month on the platform) then I would say machine. Chances are the folks I follow will be ranked there anyhow.

Depends on which app I’m using. Warpcast, I’d rather curate the list of folks whose content I want to subscribe to (and also DC, if needed and infrequently). Other apps - I’d want machine recommendation and smart search.

I actually like seeing quality posts from people I didn’t follow on topics that I explicitly expressed interested, especially when they have opposite arguments, as long as they not clickbait or engagement farming.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that followers were not part of the protocol. I need do a deep dive… definitely having “the machine “ play a role in surfacing quality content that is relevant to me is valuable, if done well (which is the hard part, I suspect)
