It is impossibly difficult to figure out where the notification noises are coming from and turn them all off.

I cant make groups to classify chats as i can servers. I cant automate outbound properly (didnt found good CRM solution, way to automatize friend requests, and way to personalize messages with profile metadata). Banning policies are quite strict given aforementioned limitations

Clyde’s Law - The more channels a server has, the less useful it is and more difficult it is to engage.

Not E2EE, they shut down communities who had done no wrong (r/WSB), their apps are unstable, they constantly watch what apps you're running (this is so it can show what game you're playing but it's not privacy preserving), they're screwing with bot devs, ...

it’s only designed for the 5% of ppl who are terminally online. but I think we’re in the v. early stages of thoughtfully designed channel architecture. we’re all still figuring out how to build token-gated communities for mass personalisation + congregation w/o algorithms.

- the experience around creating and reading threads - If a message have 3+ URLs, the embeds looks very overwhelming. - The mentions can become too overwhelming too fast. - Their server profiles is a joke compared to slack

Bad noise to signal ratio. But I feel like I have to use it which makes me hate it more.

Too many perquisites before joining everything, I hate that. Also, too much spamming.

There are of course product/UX issues. But the bigger problems are related to how communities are configured and who the product was intended for originally (gamers). Roles and all of the other elements of gamification create an environment that is demanding of your attention.

The overall design just gives me a headache every time I enter a Discord. I’m not sure what it is but feels overwhelming. I much prefer Slack.
