Once had a rough night working nonstop toward a hard deadline The partner, ex-military, kept coming to my desk asking about the status, and saying *it'll be OK, no one is shooting at you* I feel like that's in the same vein

I was a manager at the time, had a great reputation, was seen as an expert in my domain. someone told me if I wanted to advance, I had to make a shift so I was seen as an authority, not an expert. Subtle nudge, but was really helpful.

Who’s gonna change first? You or the 100+-year-old company you work for? (Clearly from before I was at Coinbase lol)

I owned my own brick and mortar for 14 years through the housing crisis/economy crash. With years of struggling I couldn't afford any help and did it myself. Someone told me to focus on "The Why" during the toughest of days. He said, "Think about why you do what you do and you'll get through it" (I had 3 young kids)
