I go back and forth on this timeless question. Farcasters are some of the most thoughtful people I know, and I’m curious to hear your opinion. πŸ’₯ β€œAre entrepreneurs born or created?”

I would say created. a certain level of survival instinct is born, but to really push it and take the risks vs the safety of swimming with the tribe your character needs to have been created that way. Typically this happens by getting a chip one one's shoulder

they're created. if the childhood is stable (whether or not impoverished), and failure + discipline are maximally reinforced, the probability that individual is capable of entrepreneurship is generally, objectively higher. cultural appetite for individualistic risk is key, though.

On the opposite take, a natural born entrepreneur could be grown and be educated to risk aversion. I think on the flip side, someone can be grown to follow practices and mindset that make them a good entrepreneur

Both. Neither one is sufficient by itself. That being said, I think entrepreneurship is a human trait everyone has to different degrees

It's likely a blend of inherent traits and environment + experiences, imo. I wonder how much survivor bias affects our perception of this question, since we tend to think of the entrepreneurs that really made it big, and not the millions of others. Is your question about successful entrepreneurs or any entrepreneur?

Most likely both. Do you consider entrepreneurship as a personality trait? If so, then it is a spectrum like all other human traits which means that some are born more "entrepreunarial" than others. It also means that the environment in which one evolves will suppress or develop this trait.

Some people have the motivation and the attitude to do it, others don’t. Whatever that intangible thing is I don’t think it can be learned.
