For high-end items, it’s the most important factor. For common items, just the S, M, L, XL will do

i guess the more precise question is whether you use a vocabulary for describing how something fits so you can distinguish one fit from another

I feel like fit descriptions are always in context to the wearer, which is different from the garment shape description or the wearer's body type. I.e. "loose" is about how it _fits_, but the same garment on two different people may not be loose given their bodies.

This means you end up venturing into the "how should this fit?" or "how did the designer intend this to fit?" versus "how is it being worn?" That said, certain aspects of the garment (width, length, seam placement) often indicate intent here, even if that's ignored.
