Hey everyone π, Posting my last newsletter for 2024- Decentralized Hotels in Japan 𧡠In this edition, Iβm diving into the concept of 'decentralized hotels' β a great model that's been evolving over the past decade and how is emerging in Japan. This approach reimagines old towns as unified hotel spaces, where the entire town functions as one interconnected lodging experience, rather than individual, isolated hotels.

Originating in Italy, itβs known as "Albergo Diffuso," which translates to "dispersed hotels." The declining birthrate and aging population, has led to many vacant homes in rural areas in Japan therefore this concept fits perfectly into the regional revitalization. By repurposing empty homes into guest accommodations, small towns can attract more visitors, boost local economies, and preserve cultural heritage.
