The spirit of George Orwell’s work is antithetical to the blind invocation of his name. It can only be found in the courage to think for ourselves, to defy entrenched power, and to fight for a world where individual freedom and human dignity have value. Yes, even if you're a precious showflake and someone else wearing a rainbow pin makes you feel personally fucking attacked. Today's video essay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ASRQbkhgl4

Agreed on all points regarding the fash co-opting and weaponizing of 1984 themes in the current political era against the left but one thing missing from this critique is Orwell, an anti-Stalinist, was critiquing, from the left, both rightwing AND leftwing totalitarianism. nnAnimal Farm is even more explicit about this, and further evidence of this stance remains in how critical many Marxist-Leninist circles are of Orwell, dismissing him as a “Trotskyist” and anti-revolutionary.
