Here’s a niche for filmmakers: priority passes (or whatever each airline calls them) actually matter. 
When traveling with cameras in your carry-on, use a backpack instead of wheeled luggage and buy a priority pass. 
If you do both and keep your gear on your back rather than in wheeled luggage, the size of your luggage often doesn't matter, as agents tend to overlook it when you're among the first to board.
