The Basilica Cistern, located in Istanbul, is a historical underground water reservoir built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century. The cistern, which is 140 meters long and 70 meters wide, is supported by 336 columns. Used during the Ottoman period as well, the structure was restored and opened to tourism in the 1980s. Notable for its Medusa head columns and dim lighting, the cistern attracts tourists and hosts various cultural events today.
