Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recently oversaw the company's first crypto transaction managed entirely by artificial intelligence bots. This milestone is seen as a significant step towards enabling AI to perform useful tasks.

In an August 30 post on X, Armstrong explained that one AI agent used crypto tokens to interact with another AI and acquire AI tokens. He emphasized that while AI agents cannot have bank accounts, they can use crypto wallets to transact with humans, merchants, or other AIs, making transactions instant, global, and free.

This development follows Armstrong's call for large language models (LLMs) to have crypto wallets, aiming to help AI agents participate in the economy. The move is part of broader industry efforts to develop platforms for AI agents to execute transactions autonomously.
