Whenever I saw terms such as web2 and web3, they used to make my head spin until @pichi recommended me the book, โRead write own by Chris dixon.โ
What I learnt:
1. Web1 (Read Era, 1990s-2005): The early web was like a library, open protocols let us consume info, but creativity was limited.
2. Web2 (Read-Write Era, 2006-2020): Platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter democratized creation... But at a cost. We traded ownership for convenience, letting big tech monetize out data and creativity
3. Web3 (Read-Write-Own Era, Now) In Blockchain user own their data, assets and even govern networks. Example is warpcast.
There was much more than this but I fear I wouldn't be able to summarize everything in a single cast๐
Definitely my 20 dollars was worth it... Thanks pichi! 2 replies
