The future is now. We can turn Farcaster into the ledger of record. Namely: a censorship-resistant feed of cryptographically signed assertions that we can digest into news with open source AI. See this talk from 2020. I think it holds up well. And every piece is now technically feasible. https://archive.is/0w3LB

At the time it wasn’t obvious that GPT-3 would improve as fast as it has. And it wasn’t obvious that we’d get a cryptographically-signed feed anytime soon. But now AI models are open and Farcaster has traction. So we can replace the paper of record with the ledger of record.

Love this idea for many reasons: censorship resistance, transparency, open structure and true content ownership. I also wonder what are the top risks hiding in this model today. Building for the future means acknowledging the deficiencies and correcting them early (or building around them).

The idea of signed feeds has been around since Scuttlebutt (2016) I guess, yet haven't hit crypto mainstream. When I learned how hubs are working it's sort of the same gossip protocol for replication of signed feeds.

Needs workarounds for now though, right? I mean casts are not permanent and if you don't pay you lose them In that sense, it's even worse than X or Instagram right now

This could be the one and only way to share news, for news publishers, on social media. Immediately making it cryptographically proven that it comes from the source? Is that thinking correct? I will be talking to a big news firm soon who asked us about this exact challenge in a world full of AI 💡

In the network state book you said you saw Bitcoin filling a similar role. How do you compare and contract the two as a place to cryptographically attest to things?

I completely agree, thanks for sharing, will read later. This is the reason I’m so excited about the potential of Farcaster, I think we have a chance, and momentum with frames, to actually modify our assumptions of media consumptions

It does hold up well. Unfortunately your place in the rock paper scissors tournament did not hold up well when I defeated you. Does this change your thinking?

so is it sort of like if I made a balajis feed that took all your different social media artifacts and summarized them (daily? weekly? don't think it matters.) with public repeatable settings? It would be a 'third person narrative' of your ideas, separate from you. That separation is the point?
