It’s all tribes. Not ideologies. Not countries. Not borders. Not even leaders. Just tribes.

Look at the flip on free speech and free markets. Ideology only matters if benefits your tribe. Look at the social networks, conferences, and crypto tribes that cross borders. Are you hanging with your physical neighbors or your tribesmen? Look at the decentralized order of tribes. Is that a single king-like leader?

Sports fans get this intuitively. I do wonder if this concept — the core unit of the network state — can get more traction if a different term is used? My observation is that most people would not proudly say they are a part of a “tribe” But the thing you are isolating *is* something people are proud of

It’s all stories. The tribes form around the story told.

a lot of "dunking" on social media is basically shouting "fuck Lakers" so that other Boston Celtics fans can hear it. a way to show your tribe that you're one of them by attacking your opponents.

In the past, people were born unto a tribe, they didn't really get to choose. Geography was destiny. Today, we have all have a choice to join, leave, or found a tribe. And, perhaps the most important evolution, we can be members of multiple tribes. Less constrained by geography, we can be "virtually" everywhere.

Certainly share this view point as someone who's moved around a lot But on the flip side, less 'official' tribes can seem volatile, temporary, and disposable; but maybe ultimately that's more natural?

I keep testing my own "borderless" idea. The model is so flexible that tribe isn't an issue. Going borderless is not possible for humans. Support of AI is a must, and fantastically, the core part of my model is based on decentralized AI. Slowly, but eventually, we will be there.

Is there a Roman empire/ghengis Khan angle here where they didn't force you to convert? Just start paying taxes and we'll make you part of the winning tribe and your life will actually be better
