4. Generally these companies grow because third-party devs help them become popular. Besides that shutting off their APIs is also such an uncreative way of doing business.

Agreed, imo third-party devs are more important to the ecosystem than the revenue ever shows. How do we incentivize companies to keep their APIs open? Does it have to be financially?
