It is a sign of wisdom to avoid believing every thought that enters your mind. Itโ€™s a mark of emotional intelligence to avoid internalizing every feeling that enters your heart. Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know Adam Grant,ย Adam M. Grant.

Habits, scientists say, emerge because the brain is constantly looking for ways to save effort. Left to its own devices, the brain will try to make almost any routine into a habit, because habits allow our minds to ramp down more often. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business Charles Duhigg

โ€œTolstoy opens Anna Karenina by observing: โ€œAll happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.โ€ Business is the opposite. All happy companies are different: each one earns a monopoly by solving a unique problem. All failed companies are the same: they failed to escape competition.โ€

I guess the only time most people think about injustice is when it happens to them. Ham on Rye, Charles Bukowski.

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that Iโ€™ve been turning over in my mind ever since. โ€œWhenever you feel like criticizing any one,โ€ he told me, โ€œjust remember that all the people in this world havenโ€™t had the advantages that youโ€™ve had. You are not the most intelligent creature in the universe. You are not even the most intelligent creature. The tonal language in the song of a humpback whale displays more complexity than the entire works of Shakespeare. It is not a competition. Well, it is. But donโ€™t worry about it. The Humans, Matt Haig.

An underpinning of psychology is that people are poor forecasters of their future selves. Imagining a goal is easy and fun. Imagining a goal in the context of the realistic life stresses that grow with competitive pursuits is something entirely different. Morgan Housel. What do you think my friend?

part II. People want to become wealthier to make them happier. Happiness is a complicated subject because everyoneโ€™s different. But if thereโ€™s a common denominator in happinessโ€”a universal fuel of joyโ€”itโ€™s that people want to control their lives. It is the highest dividend money pays.

Your personal experiences with money make up maybe 0.00000001% of what's happened in the world, but maybe 80% of how you think the world works. I thought the book was fantastic and would strongly suggest it to anyone who wants to be proactive with their finances!

Are we more like a coffee bean, a carrot or an egg? What happens to us when we are boiled in the trials and tribulations of life? Effie Black. (I believe we are who we are, an inextricable blend of our raw ingredients and the method with which we were cooked.) What do you think my friend?

If you are copying famous people, you arenโ€™t learning from them. Doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1. The moment of creation, and the result is something fresh and strange. Peter Thiel
