what are some cases (historical examples etc) where the “history running in reverse” framework doesn’t apply?

I have dozens of examples of the history-is-running-in-reverse concept, but they are clearer in retrospect. What’s not obvious is what part reoccurs and what part is mirror-imaged. For example, with COVID, it’s like Spanish Flu in that it’s a pandemic but unlike it in that it was amplified rather than censored.
