Lots of unexpected swings in global politics this year — Modi losing his majority, France choosing a far-right coalition, the left crushing it in the UK, and of course the turd sandwich that is the upcoming US election

I sure didn’t start the year expecting that France would have a far-right PM by summer

This was very expected. Pretty much the whole of Europe has been leaning toward the far right for the last 4 years or so!

How could this be expected? There were no legislative elections this year, it was a snap decision by Macron after the European elections

Personally I saw it as inevitable ever since his reelection, this outcome was bound to happen. France has been a ticking time bomb for the past 6 years. A snap decision had to be made. Had he not taken action, he wouldn't have survived another 3 years. Even now, his survival remains uncertain! PS i do not support the far right just observing
