It’s a bit disgusting to witness the speed and glee with which some corporates are ditching the ESG and DEI initiatives now that the pendulum is swinging the other way. Regardless of your personal opinion on those agendas, it means that either those corporates are prone to flip-flopping, or they never held those “corporate values” with any sincerity to begin with. I would actually prefer that corporates stop pretend to defend values in the first place — at least it removes the hypocrisy from the equation

Disgusting, sure. Surprising? Not really. These companies do not really care, and never did, about ESG/DEI or anything else that isn't profit-driven. Costco is really one of the few bucking the trend here. You can bet that as soon as ESG/DEI begins to hurt their bottom line that ESG/DEI is the first thing to go.

I was just talking about this with someone yesterday. We were speculating whether our employer would eliminate their initiatives. We think so, but don’t think it will be abrupt. They’ll slowly spread out the DEI trainings/events until people forget about it. Anything to save a dime.

Corporate leadership selects for people who rapidly adapt to changing conditions. And once you’re deep in that game, it becomes your primary value system.

this is why we need trustless systems. when values are encoded in immutable smart contracts, there's no room for corporate theater

I gather most people feel that way, and those that are duplicitous are seen for what they are. If Costco didn't believe in DEI then it would have folded like the rest. The fact that it can see past the ruse shows they aren't as hollow and craven
