There’s this really weird assumption in the “flood the zone” strategy. I think it is correct that you can overwhelm media channels with too much news; so yes you can flood the zone and divert focus from your core actions. But it’s a peak arrogance to assume your actions at scale won’t cause a flood of consequences at scale YOU can’t control. The rational response is look away and wait. There is always a moment of silence after you kick the wasp hive.

I feel that much of that “flood the zone” strategy is comprised of shock-and-awe announcements that aren’t followed through, or get negotiated down or reversed a couple of days later without fanfare

I think it’s like watching WWE in an Australian pub. It gets turned off and a real game gets put on. No one cares.
