π¨πͺπΊ EU citizens/EU ReplyGuys, today marks a very important day, the last day to become active and avoid a dystopia. The EU Council plans to secretly green light to have bulk Chat Control searches of all of our private communications by EU governments going forward. It will enable your government to surveil your communication on WhatsApp etc 24/7 and identify critics etc - basically China 2.0βΌοΈ They hope you wonβt pay attention due to the recent elections and the EU Championships. Now is the last day to act and avoid it. The good news is that many EU governments have not yet decided whether to go along with this final draft. Contact your government and tell it to vote against Chat Control on Wednesday, 19 June (find contact details in the link and let ChatGPT etc write a complaint letter, takes 5 min.) Ring the alarm bells online. π¨ https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/council-to-greenlight-chat-control-take-action-now/

I feel like we're waging this exact same grassroot battle against E2EE backdoors every few years. It's as if the governments were regularly testing the public over this, waiting for the one time that people will slip up and let the legislation pass. It's exhausting to have to explain again and again that once a backdoor is in place, it's in place for everyone, including nefarious actors; and that no amount of criminal threat to society is worth the blanket removal of confidentiality in all private correspondence
