The 2015 Paris Agreement had two goals regarding the global average temperature increase above its pre-industrial (1850–1900) level.

The first was to set a hard cap to well below 2°C.

The second was to try and limit it to 1.5°C".

We've now fully blown past the latter, which is something that climate scientists intuited for years and is now substantiated by Copernicus data (https://climate.copernicus.eu/surface-air-temperature-october-2024).

October was 1.65°C above the pre-industrial level and was the 15th month in a 16-month period for which the atmosphere exceeded the Paris goal of 1.5°C.

As to the first goal, it's still work in progress, but it looks like the future got decided in no small part yesterday.

I’m old enough that it probably won’t make much a difference to me in my lifespan. I’m more worried about the next generation but I don’t have a bulletproof strategy to offer. Perhaps a mountainous place far enough from population centers and with enough arable land to self-sustain with some crops and chickens!

adaptation strategy to a 2+°C  world?

Feels like climate change deniers are a vast majority in the crypto space. Refreshing to see these horrible numbers shared here as well.

I know I won't be affected as much as others, so I am hoping the rest of the world doesn't wake up too late.

my bet? we capping that 2ºc then experience mass extinction events for at least 4 decades
then all is well
