Mine is primarily fear of Proof of Poof… I have enough to run a few nodes but I fear messing up or getting hacked. This my precious eth remains locked behind a gates hardware wallet. What would you say to someone like me to encourage running a node?

You can still use a hardware wallet, and your current address and seed phrase, when setting up your node.

You said “my precious eth remains locked behind a gates hardware wallet” and I was reacting to that. You don’t need to create a new seed phrase nor transfer your ETH. But yes, obviously, you’re interacting with one smart contract, which is the native Beacon Contract, …

… quite literally the most battle-tested smart contract since Dec 2020 with 40M ETH and $108B in TVL. Should that contract be malicious or exploited, you won’t have to worry about your ETH, hardware wallet or not; there won’t be an Ethereum project anymore.
