I have spent a long time thinking about this and one thing you have to be really careful about is straying into illiberalism when you get too lost in the food is poison sauce Yes the FDA food division is slow moving garbage Are we fat sick and unhealthy Yes But also Americans LOVE their junk food. And at a certain point with this you start getting into a dictation of personal choices right up there with vaccine mandates. Tough problem

I think everyone can make their own choice but I also think people need to better understand the choice their making. Vast majority don't know that the food they're eating has really terrible ingredients that haven't been tested. I also think it's ridiculous how expensive healthy food is. And when I say health I mean non gmo, pesticide free food.

I have thought this too which is why I have in the past advocated for front of package nutrition labels, no marketing allowed on front Health halos are evil

Keep in mind that one in five Americans above the age of 18 is functionally illiterate. They can’t read food labels, and some might not be educationally equipped to even understand what they mean anyway. I’d wager there’s a massive overlap between illiteracy, low income, and poor nutritional choices

Even so, I don't think we should need to be so careful with our choices because our choices should be safe. I'm not saying ban junk food but ban ultra crappy ingredients. That way even those who maybe don't have the literacy or understanding can eat without destroying their body or their family's.
