We're live on @gitcoin GG22 — raising funds to build public goods for the decentralized geospatial web. Any support is so appreciated 🙏 https://explorer.gitcoin.co/#/round/42161/609/37

We typically don't like working on weekends, but got inspired today and deployed our v0.1 Location Proof EAS schema on @celo mainnet ... 🎁 Details here: https://docs.astral.global/docs/location-proof-protocol/introduction

We just applied for the @ensdomains Public Goods large grant to develop Spatial.sol, spatial data structures + algorithms for the EVM. Have a look at the application to get a sense of what we plan to build, and why 🌐 https://ens.questbook.app/dashboard/?grantId=6619151a3a7a91313846ed80&chainId=10&proposalId=66995ce114d9718cd08f1d65

We just spent some time dusting off Spatial.sol — pointInBbox could help, as could distance (for radial buffers) and pointInPolygon: https://github.com/AstralProtocol/spatial-sol/blob/ccc3451c37af53d9bcf5bd0159f541c8917eaaa2/src/Spatial.sol#L310 (We're still troubleshooting `distance`, converting between degrees, radians and meters is a bit fidgety)

Our plan is to publish the first few recipes built on Astral, but it's an open protocol, and anyone can contribute. If you want to learn more, send a DC or join our Telegram — https://t.me/+UkTOSXnDcDM5ZTBk

We've designed our location proof schema (built on /eas) with an extensible field to attach supporting evidence. We call these extensions "recipes" — recipes define what data needs to be included for a location proof to adhere to a particular strategy.

A wide range of strategies for proving location on the Internet is emerging. We categorize them as social, machine + sensor data strategies.

This is very similar to our thinking on location proofs — it doesn't seem possible to deterministically *prove* that a number / digital file was created at a particular point in the universe. But we can increase confidence in the authenticity of a location claim by attaching evidence that it's true.

(If you join Telegram, you can get early access to the private beta of the Astral Atlas, a dapp we’ve built where users can record and verify geotagged entries onchain.)

How? We’re working on the toughest problems in onchain geospatial: - Verifying locations securely, privately and with less trust. - Storing and analyzing geospatial data on-chain. - Ensuring privacy through zero-knowledge proofs. All to empower developers and protect users.

Enter Astral: we're building open source tools and infrastructure to simplify creating location-based dapps. With our Location Proof Protocol and onchain spatial registries, we're laying the foundation for a new vertical of Web3 applications.

It's a challenge worth solving though — location data is immensely valuable and critical for apps across navigation, social, delivery, and more. The Web3 community is missing out. We believe we deserve user-controlled + privacy-preserving alternatives to apps like Uber, Tinder, Google Maps, etc.

Building with location data in Web3 is tricky though. Why? → proving "where" on the decentralized web is tough → developer tooling + infrastructure is lacking

Think about your day—checking the weather, navigating somewhere, ordering lunch. What do all these activities have in common? They all rely on location data. At Astral, we’re making it easier to build location-based apps onchain. ✨
