"If I visited a space online where English wasn't the primary language, I would not insist that people use English for my sake; I'm still a guest in that virtual space no less than I was a guest in Paris" i think with all the translation tools available now, it's easier to get around basic language barriers

entirely agree! Other people taking part in the carnival were talking about this and how framing multilingualism as « you get to speak in your language, with nuance & words you know; I'm responsible for using a translation tool and stay aware of the limits of that tool » might be the best approach for the future :)
