Just found this well thought-out nuanced take on the topic from @trustlessstate: https://www.bankless.com/the-memecoin-trojan-horse. The only part I'd dispute is the header "All Tokens Start as Memes" because even though this is very often true, it doesn't have to be in all cases.

That said, I think some the current AI agent experiments around memecoins are worthwhile - not because they promote memecoins, but because it's a good testing ground for the general concept of AI agents.
