Genuine question: Do ya’ll think there will come a time that artists/designers won’t be able to compete with AI? The sheer amount of work produced in one generation from 1 prompt (say 100k pieces) is more than I could produce by hand in my lifetime. Even if it was a purely digital work.

Wanted insights from real folks & I’ve been enjoying the responses! The opinions are v different within my IRL art communities than that of my web3/FC art frens.

Just vibin in the middle. It’s both helpful and also competition when used with a meaningless intention. But you could say that about anything.

I actually see it the same way, the phrasing was meant to play devils advocate to the extreme and see folks thoughts. I also use AI to streamline processes / save time / bring certain ideas to life, but I also see the value and beauty in constructing something with human love, labor, & creativity. Both can exist.

I have an abundance mindset, & think all art , even AI art, is derived from human thought.

However, there is a balance to that, & legitimate problem of AI art being used mindlessly for cash grabbing projects that have more quantitate output that genuine projects.

what sounds an alarm is the competition aspect of your question. i never see it as something “to compete with” (i would die because it is mighty)

i just see it as a tool that allows me to bring into life what i want to bring, on a way that i couldn’t before.

I agree! There are some tasks within both crafts that don’t necessarily help the creative output / process, I use AI for these tasks, myself. 

This question is more coming from the perspective of seeing cash grabbing creative projects overpowering projects that have a little more love put into them.

There is a democratization of the fields of art and design, I think. 

I'm glad that more people can be creative.

There is already ai art, human art, and a hybrid of both. I’m keen on the latter & partake in that! It’s valuable to collaborate with AI as creative humans, but I can see why folks see it as competition as well. That’s why I posed the question.

Can you explain the chess analogy here? 

Not connecting how it’s related to the topic at hand, I do see the parallels in controversy though!

Imagine it's the late 90s. You ask Kasparov if there will be a time when humans chess players will no longer compete with computers. What do you think he'd say? 

I believe trying to compete with AI art is the wrong way to think about it. There would be AI-art and human-art. Some will likely prefer one over the other.

I feel it will raise the value of human artists but create less competition cause you’ll have to have a lot of skill and be unique
