Desires are both internal and external. Just like motivations are intrinsic and extrinsic. Desires manifest from these motivations.

can you give me an example of an internal desire though?

Act of kindness towards animal, fellow human etc...doing things for others just for the sake of it without any expectation. I sometimes like to just purchase food and distribute...

The fact is we are always surrounded by people, other species both big, small and tiny...assuming i am alone in an island. I might help a born birdy if the situation called for... intrinsic desire. And yes, i haven't read mimetics...but why should I read it is the question.
