My unrequested view of America and Civil War thoughts:
The people who think there will be an American Civil War like the last Civil War, fail to think about the conditions necessary to get there. You're exactly right, there isn't much to argue about that requires killing people over.
Today, we have a massively globalized financial system, and we're a net importer of goods, and our main "export" are services that are digital. Now we can say we're already in a "digital" war where countries and states are fighting for control of data, energy, AI, chips, etc., but we typically fight on the economic side today with trade policies. The majority of any goods people want are in general produced in a network supply chain across the world. You can't really take over any one country and own anything that really moves the needle on quality of life on a nation-state level, so why does anyone think it would work on a national level?
We fight economically today, and that's all we can do. 0 reply
