This is honestly so, so refreshing. It's all I've ever been programmed to do, and it feels like most platforms punish my earnest engagement style. Legacy social is where nuance goes to die

I have never played any of those and I tend to get anxious and overwhelmed in games with long term synergies like that, but you make a compelling pitch. I think my apprehensions are a fossil from a younger, more chaotic time in my life and I'd kind of like to get one of those heavier games on the table sometime now that I've got some more stability to work with

100%! You can actually download the print-and-play for free from the product listing on Anthromancer.com, where you'll also find a Tabletop Simulator module linked. I sell physical copies via the same website, though I also like to offer free copies in the hopes that it will one day become more popular. Just let me know if you're interested and we can exchange delivery info!

I've heard great things about Spirit Island but have yet to get the chance to try it out. Do you host live events?

The little brown tokens in Puerto Rico was always jarring to me. I don't think purple really makes it better. In either case, though, it's what the game is about. Maybe there's nothing to be done. It would work great as a piece of commentary; a part of the reason something as evil as chattel slavery was possible is because the people who created, enforced and benefitted from it saw those people as such -- just little brown tokens to be placed in roles, whose names and stories were not a bit relevant to the game being played. Perhaps there could be a Haitian edition where the tokens kill all the players if the game goes on too long

I'm Dan, and I designed a card game called Mercenarium. I host an in-person tournament for it every Monday night and I'm hoping to build the community beyond my hometown. It feels like chess meets poker meets Mario kart. Let me know if you want a copy and I might be able to send a few freebies out.

It would be handy to have persistent scorecards reflecting a person's general trustworthiness if we must deal with strangers

Found you here b/c of your x post of the same query. Expanding on my reply there: every major societal crisis traces at least in part back to the fundamental incentive structure of our economic technology. We have to keep believing there is something truly novel and transformative here, and we have to keep doing our best to draw that potential to the surface, because the alternative is to give up on a better system, and retreat into an indefinite and bleak march into boiling oceans. We don't have a choice. Crypto has to succeed. And if it's destined to fail then I will savor the delusion while it lasts, and enjoy the fight that much more because of it.
