A super rare opportunity to photograph the Turn Point Lighthouse from the water on a beautiful day boating on the Puget Sound. This lighthouse built in 1893, and was the turning point for our return to Bellingham that afternoon.

Mahalo… definitely an amazing corner of the planet. We saw so many bald eagles, California sea lions, harbor seals, great blue herons… but I was hoping to see some of @annemckinnell’s orcas, and… no luck with those. 🤙🏼

Now there's a familiar spot! I used to go there on every boat trip back when I lived in Victoria. It's a hot spot for orca. I'm sorry you didn't see any this time. This spot marks the border between the USA and Canada. It is on the USA side in the San Juan Islands. The other side is the beginning of the Gulf Islands.

Yeah, we were there in May, which I think is not the right time of year. Would have been fun to meet up with you on your boat… maybe the next time I’m out there!

No, they are resident orca, so they are there all year. Not in this exact spot, but in the salish sea. There are also resident orca farther north where I spend my summers now. They are a different pod. Then we also have transients as well.

Oh, interesting… I was thinking that they were more active at different times of the year, but guess I just was unlucky.
