I’m going to the gym 3 times a week, I dance and cycle once a week (and in daily life). But running literally still kills me 😭 any ideas why? Is it because it’s a completely different style of cardio compared to cycling?

Think of running as a unique β€œskill” to build up Build up through diff distance and time modalities; e.g., instead of going for a 5km run, run 1km then walk 2 min x 5 and build from there Or run 8 min, walk 2 min x 3 Lastly, run slower than you think you need to! Saves your joints + builds zone 2 cardio

Your muscles and nervous system will need some time to become efficient at it, much like trying a new exercise at the gym. Form, tempo, and breathing also play large factors. If you're looking for a specific idea, how's your form? Do your feet land in front, or underneath you?

Running, especially long distance Marathons, is very taxing over time. I prefer sprinting, HIIT style. Less joint damage, more focus on form and speed. 6-15 seconds of max effort 6-10 reps Rest plenty in between

Pretty much everything the other comment says. I've been on the same boat as you from the past 30 years, I play football, love to cycle around but absolutely hated running, only until recently because it was the only way to have a fitness regime during winters. Now I don't hate it at least :)

I regularly bike, weight train, walk/hike but I still feel like I'm starting from scratch when I try to pick up running.

Learn the techniques, running is a hell of complicated thing despite the looks of it :)
