Global crypto ETF AUM has reached US$168.3B at the time of writing, a fraction of the US$14.8T global ETF market and US$128T global asset management industry. With immense room for growth, global crypto ETF AUM could surpass US$1T in 5 years.
🇺🇸 US dominance, EU variety:
The US leads with ~86% market share (US$144.3B), driven by spot Bitcoin ETFs. Europe, with US$15.3B AUM, offers more altcoin ETFs, while Canada and Hong Kong emerge as key regional hubs.
🛎️ Market trends:
Despite declining crypto trading volumes in early 2025, spot ETF volumes for Bitcoin and Ethereum showed resilience, highlighting strong investor confidence.
The team also assessed the relative likelihood of approval for various spot crypto ETFs based on a potential framework that considers several key factors such as the existence of a regulated futures market, asset maturity, liquidity, and issuer experience, the "Made in USA" label, and the evolving political and regulatory climate.
Looking ahead, a potential “altcoin season” for ETFs may be on the horizon, as the ETF application pipeline becomes increasingly dominated by altcoin filings, notably for Solana and XRP.
