The Mask of Zorro (1998) is a swashbuckling adventure film directed by Martin Campbell, set in 19th-century California during Spanish colonial rule. The story follows Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins), the original Zorro, who escapes from prison after being captured by the corrupt governor, Don Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson), 20 years earlier. Seeking revenge for the loss of his wife and separation from his daughter, de la Vega finds a successor in a young, reckless thief named Alejandro Murrieta (Antonio Banderas).
