Curious if Farcaster could ever support private profiles viewable to accepted followers only (like X, IG, etc.), either for Warpcast or other clients, or if the nature of decentralized social and content being available in hubs and accessible by anyone means that's not technically possible (in near term/current architecture)

It can, and we will! If you’d use something like this. We’ll add it to Wildcard :)

I wonder what you would be interested in hiding -- profile pic, bio, some posts, your interactions, something else. It mostly can be done, but it means you might have to give up some ownership or discoverability or in some cases decentralization itself.

Theoretically could be done by encrypting any private casts (and then accepted followers would have a key to decrypt, would need to figure out how to share between clients) The casts would still be in the protocol and could show up on other clients but would just look like gibberish so they'd likely want to filter them out It will be interesting to see how the Merkle team implements direct casts in the protocol which I believe will be E2EE and would likely provide a blueprint for how to make private casts work as well

fwiw anyone can make these private profiles off chain and in a new client & if it does well enough maybe other clients like Warpcast could adopt it! this would be cool to see

Even if protocol does not allow it a client can encrypt messages and decrypt them only to certain users. Making it private to that client and its users.

Wouldn’t we have to bridge our selves to the other desired chain in order to share information and data Only other way is with links! This is why Farcaster is superior but it doesn’t really give us any other kids to play with yet! Early.
