It’s ironic that we’re simultaneously acknowledging the downsides of plastics and promoting GLP-1 meds It’s the hubris of a materially advanced society — we can’t fathom how engineering our materials and our bodies could be bad for us Though the negatives of GLPs will likely be discovered sooner (spoiler alert: muscle loss)

at the margin, probably better to have a skinnier society and then solve for the issues that arise once we've cured obesity

Question about the muscle loss comment, have you read something recently? I haven't looked into all this so I am not up to date. Educational guess I'd say it's in relationship to losing weight doing nothing as opposed to previously people would actually work out etc...

I’m not sure the muscle loss is entirely pro forma GLP but subsequent success of the drug itself. Kinda like how Viagra was originally researched for chest pain and hypertension.

The modern world has given us some really amazing things but man have we lost sight because of it all. Can we all please just go back to the most natural and basic ways of eating and caring for ourselves ?😩 Watching some family members become so frail from GLPs and having no interest in understanding the negative effects is the epitome of ✨stress✨

it would be ironic if creating fat was an appropriate/healthy biological response to sequestering some prevalent environmental toxin and reducing that fat w/o dealing with the env toxin lead to worse outcomes longer term..

With my discussions with doctors in the past they are waiting to see the long term effects as they say it's too early to tell... So ya... We're allowing ourselves to be guinea pigs... Why? I think motivated by vanity... People in power feel that important? I don't know...

100% Contemporary society loves a quick fix. And then a quick fix for the problems caused by first quick fix and so on. It’s bandaids all the way down. It’s #1 reason I can’t bring myself to recover my former techno optimism. At some point the whole disgusting mess is going to fall off and the failure to address the root cause of things will become painfully apparent.

It’s crazy how we often overlook the long-term effects of both tech and health advancements. GLP-1 meds might be a short-term fix, but muscle loss seems like a big red flag.
