That being said, it makes perfect sense for some channels that have a critical mass like /memes and /tabletop .  It’s work to moderate these channels - it’s nice to have a revenue stream which pays moderators.

If your channel is smaller tho, might be better to have a vanilla hypersub

don't think very many channels are ripe for monetization yet. a few are, and a few hosts are thoughtful and smart enough to do it well

would bet we'll see a bunch of misses around decentralized channels, hosts doing too much when the bigger goal should be the same: more, better posts with more, better engagement

Because legacy social media is entirely monetized as well. It's just abstracted away behind algorithms and ads, leaving users with nothing but enshrined reputation instead of actual value.
