I have a theory about this — this is why the rest of the world likes soccer. As you said, it mirrors reality for most people (running around the field trying to make something happen but usually nothing happens) Americans on the other hand like gridiron because you can more readily score (and more positions can score) Most importantly, no matter how down you are, you’re only a few hail Mary’s from parity. Mirrors the American sense that opportunity is ever present and available for many

there is also something important related to the low barrier of entry to play it here in south america there are soccer fields everywhere, and as a kid or adult playing it is so easy and accessible
