I find it bizarre how many people, talking about socialism/communism paint it through the lens of the Russian Revolution, as though we’d just be living in Eastern European industrial economies all of a sudden. Political systems look different in any given context (technological era, geopolitical setting, location)

Generally, that's just disingenuousness. People pretend that time, technology, and other relevant context aspects do not matter because it simplifies the path to their desired conclusion.

Precisely. And this is to say nothing of the constant conflations of the word “socialism” with either National Socialism (Fascism) or Leninism/Stalinism (highly centralized power structures in bizarre hybrid of syndicalism and industrial capitalism, with two world wars in the middle)
