All my experiences as an individual shareholder with transfer agents such as AST have been terrible. The lack of customer service and the slowness is stunning for public markets. I am genuinely curious for those who know the industry - why is this the case?

My hypotheses: I am not the end customer, and this is a check-the-box necessity for a public company once a transfer agent has significant market share of public companies it is hard to disrupt. low-cost, low-margin, commodity solution w little incentive to improve
