Because Zone2 will bring you better VO2max and thus longevity. zone3/4 just bring stressor to your body.

are there any proof to that? highest VO2 athletes are cross country skiers, rowers cyclists.. they spend hours in zone 3-4 each day.

Source? Spending “hours” in zone 3/4 means nothing if they spend 80% of their training time in Zone2. You obviously need zone3/4/5 training, but it’s just a small part of the total volume.

on the highest VO2 max athletes you can find some materials here: https://www.topendsports.com/testing/records/vo2max.htm the other part is "anecdata" and personal experience. If you are sitting on an Erg or pumping a Ski Erg for 1-2h as an athlete you will not spend 80% of your time below 140-150 bpm
