Wind Farms do quite well in shallow waters(USA East Coast) where it's easy to anchor them to the bottom. In deep water it becomes more of a cost issue( USA Pacific Coast). I also saw a great many of them when I was approaching Taiwan's main airport.

I’ve heard some people claiming that the cost to build them and maintain them is high in relation to the power that they generate. Not sure how much truth is in that though, surely if they weren’t economically viable people wouldn’t bother.
