last CD acquisition of the year is this wild album by jazz fusion composer and keyboardist Jun Fukamachi. he started experimenting with synths in the 70s and in 1989 founded the first synthesizer major as a professor at a Japanese university. Quark (1980) is difficult to summarize but to me it is equal parts Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, and Vangelis. there are glimmers of upbeat Japanese fusion bands like Casiopea but the clouds don’t usually part for very long. wouldn’t recommend this one for casual listening, probably best served with some psilocybin or LSD. https://album.link/i/1542227722

Recommend to explore Jun Fukamachi discography, even the projects were he was just producer or session musician. This guy is a genius, period 👍

totally agree, still digging into more of his stuff. any particular reccos? I think On The Move is a good starting point for his albums, whereas Quark is challenging at times
