most artists tend to be bad at making money or even (un)consciously avoid it. this seems counterintuitive but believe it or not, university art programs condition students to believe that they will be poor and deserve it. it’s truly bizarre once you gain some distance.

Yeah I agree with that.
But to me this romanticized vision of art and artists is what triggers this unhealthy relationship with money.

yeah there’s some truth there, obviously you can’t be solely motivated by money or your audience will likely see through it.

that said, maintaining an active studio practice is 100% an entrepreneurial endeavour and most definitely a job/business.
