The double-humped Bactrian camels in Nubra Valley, Ladakh, are a unique sight in the cold desert landscape. Unlike the single-humped dromedaries found in Rajasthan, these camels are adapted to the harsh, high-altitude conditions. Historically used for trade along the Silk Route, their distinctive double humps store fat, allowing them to survive long periods without food and water. In Nubra Valley, they are a popular attraction, especially for camel rides in the sand dunes of Hunder village. Riding these camels against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks and the Shyok and Nubra rivers offers a surreal experience, blending the stark beauty of the desert with the rich history of Ladakh.
