Back in 1997 I was bemused by the choice of Roni Size’s ‘New Forms’ over ‘OK Computer’ by Radiohead in the Mercury Music Prize. 25 years later I think they made the right call.

It is somewhat sad that you get better internet connectivity on a plane in the middle of the Atlantic than you do in some parts of London.

Lately I've been rebuilding a blog in Hugo and have really enjoyed the experience. Some learning curve with the templating language but otherwise it's been a fairly smooth adventure.

Worked on getting 19+ years of data out of Day One and into Obsidian. Modified a Python script to do the heavy lifting, and after an hour got 95% of the way there. The remaining 5% I'll have to do manually.

I spent the day at the Javascript coal face trying to resolve a hydration error with a React component. Using a framework that doesn't clearly delineate what Javascript is run at build time and what Javascript being run on the client is IMHO a recipe for disaster. There is always a fine line between genius and stupid. When your framework tries to be clever it usually ends up at the latter.

According to Apple Books I've read 57 books so far this year. A good mix of titles with only a third being re-reads. I think the end of year total will end up between 60-70. #books
