Excited that we finally came out of stealth today! Building tools so that exchanges can ZK prove solvency daily. https://www.coindesk.com/business/2023/03/09/zero-knowledge-crypto-startup-proven-raises-158m-in-seed-round/

No chance. Retail investors always have worse returns on average.

Simple bar graphs (with added useful priors like averages across populations, etc) are more informative and unbiased.

Top graph is known to be bad info viz. The area of the thing is dependent on (arbitrary) ordering of the categories. You can easily lie with that sort of visualization. Category: A B C D E F G H Thing 1: 10 9 8 7 4 3 2 1 Thing 2: 4 10 3 9 2 8 1 7 Thing 1 and 2 are "equally good" but Thing 1 *looks* way better.

I'd argue finance is actually one of the most transparent industries. - Banks have to get stress tests which are made public. - Heavily regulated, i.e. lots of disclosure required. - Public financial markets are 100% transparent (all orders and trades are publicly viewable). VC-funded tech? Pretty darn opaque.

Nah, d gamma / d stock (3rd derivative) is as high as anyone cares to go. And even that only rarely. (former options market maker)

The Idea Factory - Gertner It's about Bell Labs, mostly 1900-1950. Turns out they invented most of the SV cultural ethos around 100 years ago, then invented all of the tech we take for granted today. Inside a monopolist! It's wild.

"Bom dia" in Portuguese, but "oi" fits so much better for this.

Secure multiparty computation: Imagine that you want to change the font on a piece of text. So you give one word to each person, and they change the font on that word and return it to you. You get the font changed on your text but each person who did the work only saw at most 1 word.

Been IF for 5 years. - No breakfast. - Protein shake for lunch. - Snack at 4pm. - Dinner at 6:30pm. On weekends I'll eat a more substantial lunch (and normal dinner). Never going back to breakfast again.

That sounds right to me. Many transparently useful things *appear* non-economic only because the boundary drawn around them is too small. "Tragedy of the commons" happens when you underconsider negative externalities. "This infra won't pay for itself" happens when you underconsider positive externalities.

Contrarian take: keep them away from unsupervised use of Internet-connected tech as long as possible.
