What does this mean to  a layman?
Imagine your teacher at school gave an assignment to you and the rest of the class, each assignment has an instruction manual and no student knows what other students assignment is. All students followed the instructions in their manuals and solve the assignment and later submit their solution to the teacher, the teacher collates all the solved assignments accordingly and and then reveal the complete solution to the class so each students will understand what they just did In the assignment. The student has no idea what they solved until the teacher reveals it at the end.
