Few hills I will die on but this is one: - baseball = much better at throwing; as seen by baseball coaches brought in to cricket teams to aid throwing from the boundary - cricket = much better at catching (without a glove) and ball handling "OMG HE BARE HANDED IT". the original cast is true in that regard

Also highly recommend this book - https://amazon.co.uk/Playing-Hard-Ball-Cricket-Baseball/dp/0349116660 Written by an ex-pro cricketer who did spring training with an MLB team. Really good account of the differences between the sports.

Spoiler alert for those that can't be bothered reading it - baseball is a pitchers game. The default is 'you get the guy out'. Best hitters in history hit 1/3 times at the plate (i.e. .300). 9 innings per game, each batter bats multiple times per game.

Cricket is a batters game. Default is 'score a lot of runs and occasionally you get the guy out'. Without getting into the weeds, there are multiple forms of cricket. OK SCREW IT WE ARE GOING INTO THE WEEDS.

First thing to know about cricket - there is no bullpen. The 11 players in a team have to do all the bowling (pitching), fielding and batting. Small addendum to this for fielding (you can have 'sub fielders for injuries' - which has been abused a bit recently with 'fake injuries' - but no sub batters/bowlers)

Imagine the 9 guys you start a baseball game - that's all you have (for the important stuff at least). Aside from Ohtani - most baseball players are either pitchers or batters (not both). In cricket, a lot more overlap. Some do specialise - i.e. are batsmen or bowlers - but far more overlap (can do both) vs baseball

Next thing - there are multiple forms of cricket. If a normal 9 innings MLB game takes 3 hours, imagine that there is: - 20/20 cricket (takes 3 hours, e.g. 3 innings MLB) - One Day Cricket (takes 7 hours, e.g. 18 innings MLB) - Test Match Cricket (takes 5 days, imagine 90 innings MLB - often finishes in a draw!)

So you can probably see already, there are different skill sets here. E.G. - 20/20 (need big hits, very few at bats doesn't matter as much if you 'strike out'); - Test Match (need low risk, can bat all day, so prizes guys who can walk/take pitches/fight off pitches)

As mentioned previously, default in cricket is 'easy to get runs' (unlike MLB where default is 'get out'). Note on cricket scoring, without getting into the weeds but imagine you score a run by getting onto first base, and another for 2nd base etc; isn't exactly correct but you get the idea).

So imagine CC Sabathia has to play MLB for 6 hours/day, 5 days in a row; not pitching all the time (but would be fielding if his team was in the field); he would also have to bat. Unless he is a world class bowler, would be expected to score runs too; team can hide e.g. one 'great bowler' but unlikely can hide two

Also, only person who has gloves is the 'catcher' - aka 'wicket keeper' - right behind the batsman. To be fair, faster bowlers bowl at 100 MPH so only seems humane to allow them gloves; these aren't baseball gloves, but similar. All other fielders just catch the ball normally. LIKE DEGENTLEMEN!
